UFC women’s champ Ronda Rousey is considered to be one of the, if not the, best female MMA fighter in the world. However, the one opponent everyone wants to see her face off against is feared Brazilian Cris “Cyborg” Justino.
When Cybor knocked out Charmaine Tweet in her Invicta FC title fight in February, she earned a $90,000 payday. Many speculated that it was the UFC who cut the check, since Invicta FC has only paid out a fraction of that payday to its other top stars.
Apparently, it wasn’t as far-fetched as some thought. According to Yahoo Sports, the UFC revealed Wednesday (March 26) that Justino has joined the promotion… and has been signed for two months.
“We want to let the world know that we want to make this fight,” UFC president Dana White told UFC Tonight. “Ronda wants this fight, everyone wants this fight to happen. But, she needs to make 135 outside the UFC.”
Cyborg (13-1-1) signed with UFC’s parent company Zuffa before her last fight, with a plan for her to eventually face Rousey. White says the UFC wants her to fight for Invicta in July at 145 pounds, and then around around the end of the year, she will make her first attempt at the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds. If she’s successful in making the weight, a date with Rousey will be determined.
Cyborg has only lost once in her entire MMA career, and it was in her first fight in 2005, when she was submitted by Erica Paes, who hasn’t fought since 2013.
Rousey is the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion, and is undefeated in 11 fights. She’s also considered one of the sport’s biggest stars.
