The second installment of the Divergent series, entitled Insurgent, easily swept the weekend box office, opening with $54 million.

The second film nearly matches the debut of its predecessor from 2014, which opened with $54.6 million. In the film, Beatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance, which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her side.

Cinderella fell to #2 this weekend, after debuting at #1, while the Liam Neeson-led action film Run All Night lands at #3 with $5.1 million and Kingsman: The Secret Service closes out the top 5 with $4.6 million.

Other new releases included Open Road’s The Gunman, which starts in fourth with a $5 million weekend; and Pure Flix’s Do You Believe?, opening at #6 with $4 million.

That’s a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard and the Fox animation, Home.
