Snoop Dogg announced this week that he’s producing an HBO series with Allen Hughes, based on 1980s Los Angeles.
According to Variety, the rapper revealed the news during a keynote speech at SXSW, saying that he’s teamed up with Hughes (The Book Of Eli) and writer Rodney Barnes (The Boondocks) for the still-untitled drama, which he’ll executive produce.
The show will center around a family living in inner-city Los Angeles and explore the effects of Reagan-era social policies on the area.
“HBO is the No. 1 network in the world, as far as developing and having these types of shows come to life,” Snoop said during a SXSW Q&A. “This is a dream come true to be able to tell a story that’s going to be told the right way on the right network.”
Further details, including a premiere date, were unknown at press time.
