Following the massive success of AMC’s series The Walking Dead since its launch in 2010, the network has announced plans to move forward with a companion series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC has ordered up a pilot, and already, a second season.
While AMC has been tight-lipped on its premise of the untitled series, sources tell THR that it will be a prequel that takes place in Los Angeles at the onset of the zombie outbreak.
AMC confirmed Monday (March 9) on the Los Angeles setting, but reveal no further details, other than it will focus on new characters and storylines.
The first season will consist of six hour-long episodes, like The Walking Dead series did; and is expected to premiere on AMC in the “late summer,” with season two set for 2016.
Walking Dead VFX guru Greg Nicotero has also been tapped to executive produce the series.
