NFL running back Chris Johnson is in stable condition after being shot in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning (March 8) in Orlando, FL.
According to reports, the former Jets RB was riding with two others when a gunman opened fire on their Jeep at an intersection at around 4 a.m.
Johnson is in stable condition after being struck in the shoulder. However, the driver, Dreekius Oricko Johnson, 28, was killed by gunfire, while another passenger, Reggie Johnson, 29, suffered gunshot wounds to his shoulder, hand and leg. He, too, is in stable condition.
When police arrived, they told them an unknown vehicle pulled up beside them at a red light and opened fire.
No further information has been released at this time, and no arrests have been made in what police are calling a homicide investigation.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and everyone impacted by this tragic event,” the Jets said in a statement.
Johnson, 29, will become a free agent this off-season, after just one season with the Jets, who declined to exercise an option for 2015 last month.
During his year with the Jets, he recorded career lows in carries (155), rushing yards (663) and rushing touchdowns (one).
