In the long battle for ratings between New York City radio stations, WWPR Power 105.1 and WQHT Hot 97, there’s a new leader: Power 105.
According to the New York Daily News, Power garnered 3.9% of the audience to 2.8% for Hot in January; and took a big lead in the mornings and among the 25- to 54-year-old listeners — meaning that The Breakfast Club is largely winning the battle against rival show, EBro in the Morning.
The ratings tilt comes just mere months after personality Angie Martinez jumped ship to join Power 105 last year. Since her departure, Hot 97 has made changes, bringing in Pio Ferro as program director and hiring Nessa to take over Martinez’s old slot.
For nearly a decade, Hot 97 was the only station in NYC to consistently play current hip-hop and R&B music. But, since Power 105.1 changed its format in 2002, the stations have battled for hip-hop radio supremacy.
