High-end Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet is claiming Ray J is ripping off their designs.
According to TMZ, the brand sent the singer a Cease & Desist Letter to stop production of his watch line, claiming it’s ripping off the design of its popular Royal Oak model.
Audemars Piguet says Ray J’s watches share similarities, including hexagonal screws placed at the corners of an octagon face. Legal documents even include tweets from consumers calling out Ray J’s watch as a “blatant ripoff.”
AP is an ultra high-end brand of watches, who customers include Lebron, Jay Z, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Their timepieces sell for upwards of $25,000 USD, while Ray J’s line are priced between $150-$500 USD.
The company gave Ray J until February 3 to stop selling his line, but despite the legal threat, Ray J’s manager David Weintraub says they plan to move forward with the release.
