Toy maker Mattel is teaming up with Google for a reimagined version of their iconic View-Master toy.
The stereoscopic viewer gets a makeover with Google’s Cardboard virtual reality platform, which allows users to insert an Android phone into the plastic unit where reels were once played that — when accompanied by a dedicated View-Master app — will allow them to explore virtual worlds.
When you “experience reels,” it delivers content that resembles old-school View-Master reels. But instead of inserting film slides, they are laid in front of you and you use your phone’s camera to scan a unique design to uncover a 3D image.
The new Mattel View-Master releases this fall, retailing for $29.99 USD with additional packs being sold separately for $14.99 USD.
