Snoop Dogg seemed to agree, also putting the annual show on blast this week for not acknowledging what he referred to as “real MCs.”
In an Instagram post, the West Coast rap legend put up an image Macklemore, noting that the Seattle rapper has three won three Grammys … more than hip-hop legends such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., DMX, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Run-D.M.C., Kendrick Lamar, Public Enemy, and Snoop himself… COMBINED. Yes, you read right, COMBINED!! Out of all the names mentioned, Kendrick is the only to win the trophies.
“F*ck the Grammys we need a hip hop show for real n*ggaz. n real mcs,” Snoop declared in the caption.
Snoop was referring to a recent piece by Complex, which published a piece entitled “The Grammys Don’t Know $#!^ About Rap.” In it, the mag breaks down Macklemore’s awards stats, as well as his female counterpart Iggy Azalea, both of whom have benefited from white privilege.
Although Iggy didn’t take home a Grammy on Sunday (Feb. 8), she did get nominated in four rap categories, which gives her more nods in Grammy rap categories than female rap greats MC Lyte, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown, combined. And even more than eight-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill, who has mostly been nominated in R&B and general categories.
Snoop wasn’t the only one upset with the Grammys. YG’s critically-acclaimed debut, My Krazy Life, didn’t get nominated at all… and sounded off on Twitter.
“Still trippin off the fact I ain’t get nominated for BEST RAP ALBUM, they keep its POLITIKS NIGGA FUK THE POLITIKS,” YG tweeted.
