Although there’s obvious inner conflict within Cash Money Records, the label’s founders Birdman and Slim are still power players within the music biz… and are listed as such in Billboard’s annual Power 100 list.
Last year, the pair landed at #50 on the list, but for 2015, they are at #90.
Billboard notes that the Cash Money army is starting to show chinks in its armor, mentioning both Lil Wayne and Tyga’s recent issues, but also cites 2014 as a huge year. Last year, Drake was still enjoying success from Nothing Was The Same, while Nicki Minaj made waves on the charts with her single “Anaconda” and her latest album, The Pinkprint.
With Weezy suing for $51 million and demanding his Young Money roster leave with him, which includes both Drake and Nicki, the Williams brothers may not be in the same power position in 2016.
Others on the Billboard Power 100 include Apple exec Jimmy Iovine, Roc Nation CEO Jay Brown, Epic Records executives L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone, and Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grange graces the cover and tops the list.
