Diageo-based whiskey brand, Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company, recently invited the BallerStatus team for a private dinner/tasing of their two latest releases: Lost Prophet and Forged Oak.

At the VIP event, held at Los Angeles’ No Vacancy bar/lounge, we introduced to both whiskeys by Masters of Whiskey, Ewan Morgan and Ed Adams.

Lost Prophet is the fourth release from the Orphan Barrel brand. The 22-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey was distilled in Frankfort, KY at what was then the George T. Stagg Distillery and found in the Stitzel-Weller warehouses. The taste begins with a honey, dried fruit, apricot and clove on the nose, and offers tastes of spice cake, vanilla and leather before a sweet, smoky finish.

The fifth release from the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company is the Forged Oak. This is also a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, distilled at the New Bernheim Distillery in Louisville and also found in the Stitzel-Weller warehouses. The whiskey spent 15 contemplative years resting in charred American oak. It begins with notes of cedar, maple and vanilla bean on the nose, while the tastes of seasoned woody notes of cocoa and young berries are complimented by a long, dry finish of black pepper.
Both Orphan Barrel versions hit stores in February, the Lost Prophet retailing for $120, while the Forged Oak is will sell at $65 USD.

Following our delicious dinner pairings, we were treated to a sneak preview of Oprah Barrel’s next release Rhetoric 21-Year-Old. Stay tuned…
