Q&A: Jennifer Lopez Explains Why Filming “Boy Next Door” Was Liberating

Blumhouse and Smart Entertainment’s Boy Next Door is currently seducing audiences worldwide. Directed by Rob Cohen (Fast & Furious), it sees Lopez and Ryan Guzman (Step Up) in a provocative thriller. We recently had the chance to sit with the J.Lo. Read on to see what they had to say.

What films are your favorite to act in?

I prefer romantic comedies (they’re just fun)… I’m a hopeless romantic, I really enjoy that kind of stuff.

What was your experience in shooting this film?

It was very liberating as an artist. It made me realize, I can make whatever movie I want (like this). It really is empowering.

How difficult was it to act in the main sex scene?

That’s our job, to make everything look natural. (Sex scenes) are always uncomfortable… They’re difficult scenes to do. If that scene didn’t work then, the rest of the movie wouldn’t have worked.

Was the intent of the film to be fun and entertaining?

We knew we were making a popcorn thriller. That doesn’t mean you that you don’t want it to have themes that resonate with everybody.
