The Cleveland Cavaliers took a blow to their team on Tuesday (Dec. 23) when center Anderson Varejao went down with an injury.
According to ESPN.com, tests Wednesday morning (Dec. 24) confirm that the big man has suffered a tear of his Achilles tendon.
The injury took place when Varejao landed awkwardly in the third quarter of Tuesday’s 125-104 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, leaving the floor without being able to put weight on the leg.
The injury will likely end his season… leaving a gap on the Cavs roster, which ESPN speculates will intensify their search for a big man.
For now, the Cavs will likely tap Tristan Thompson to step into the starting role for Varejao as he recovers.
