More emails from the Sony hacking scandal have been revealed. One in particular, is one of Beyonce’s dad Matthew Knowles trying to pitch a Destiny’s Child movie to executives.
An email from Screen Gems boss Clint Culpepper reads, “Matthew Knowles, Beyonce’s father wants to make the film of Destiny’s Child and came to me first. He’s going to Universal next. Do we think it would be a successful film? They’re on Sony label. I’m just not sure that it’s not too soon.”
The email was written December 3, 2013. While film didn’t get picked up, The Daily Mail reports a Destiny’s Child biopic is currently set to premiere on LIFETIME in February 2015.
Another email suggests that a Kanye West movie may be on the horizon. His creative assistant, Elon Rutberg, sent a note to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, just this August… pitching a feature-length film project.
“I supervise all of Kanye’s film and media projects, and we have a major film project coming up that involves both cinematic and technological innovation, so I naturally thought Sony and wanted to reach out,” wrote Rutberg. “We premiered a multi-screen cinema experience to great response at Cannes 2012, and are looking to take the storytelling to the next level with a feature length film, shot for an immersive cinema experience.”
Details about Ye’s film was unknown and there’s currently no word if the project has been picked up. Additionally, West will be appearing in the as-yet-untitled Christmas Eve film due next year, directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
