Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports continues to make its mark in sports, announcing this week it’s first boxing card.
The company announced Tuesday (Dec. 9) that it has reached an agreement for three cards to be televised on Fox Sports 1. The first in the series — which has been dubbed “throne boxing” by Jay Z — is set for Jan. 9 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
“All of us at Roc Nation Sports are thrilled to announce our first boxing event along with our first series and television deal,” said David Itskowitch, the COO of Roc Nation Sports’ boxing division. “”An evening of exciting fights, great music and fantastic entertainment will be a fitting way to kick off ‘throne boxing,’ a series that will stand alone on the boxing landscape.”
Welterweight prospect Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (24-0, 13 KOs) will square off against Long Island fighter Tommy Rainone (22-5-1, 4 KOs) in the headlining bout, scheduled for 10 rounds. The rest of the card has not been announced.
In addition to the fights on the first card, Roc Nation is also planning live performances by Roc Nation artists, which are still to be announced.
The dates and venues for the other two shows have not been set, but Roc Nation hopes to put them on in the first half of 2015 in either Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
