Lifetime offers up a first glimpse of the Whitney Houston biopic, entitled Whitney.

This teaser hows us a scene in which the late singer delivers her powerful ballad “I Will Always Love You,” while following her life, from the birth of her and Bobby Brown’s daughter Bobbi Kristina to her drug abuse problems. In one pivotal frame, record producer Clive Davis (Mark Rolston) tells her she needs to “protect her voice.”

The film is directed by  Angela Bassett and stars America’s Next Top Model runner up Yaya DaCosta as Whitney and Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown. The news comes a month after Lifetime received backlash over a biopic for the late Aaliyah. Hopefully, they redeem themselves?

Whitney will premiere Jan. 17 on Lifetime.
