The Lifetime biopic for Aaliyah, titled The Princess Of R&B, debuted over the weekend. But, didn’t get very good feedback from longtime collaborator Timbaland.
Timbo called into Hot 97 on Monday morning (Nov. 17) to express his criticism over the TV biopic.
“Everybody keeps telling me stop blaming Lifetime but blame Wendy and I’m like well…” Timbaland said in the interview. “I didn’t follow the story, so I have to believe the fans. It’s just hard for me to believe.”
As the interview continued, he revealed that he never realized it wasn’t just a rumor. “I want to know the full details before going in. I always thought it was a rumor… I thought it was a joke. Evidently it wasn’t,” Timbaland said.
The controversy began between fans and producers of Lifetime’s film before it even aired.
“I’m very upset about it,” Timbaland said. “Fans kept sending me great pictures and posts. I got like 100 every hour. My Instagram turned into all [Aaliyah], but I said that she is all worth what it is. It brought me tears… how they supported her after her death.”
