After 14 years on the air, BET’s music countdown show 106 & Park is coming to a close.
The network made the announcement Friday (Nov. 14), revealing that the final episode airs Dec. 19 with Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté playing host. However, BET says there’s plans to produce 106 & Park specials throughout the year, including the annual New Year’s Eve show, 106 & Party, along with live event experiences.
“We have pride in being involved with the show that has welcomed almost every movie star, music superstar, and fresh-faced talent you can name,” said Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming and Specials. “We’ve all laughed with and been entertained by the young men and women hosts that have charmed us at 6 p.m. (and more recently 5 p.m.) each weekday.”
The long-running show launched in 2000 with hosts Free and AJ. After five years, Julissa and Big Tigger took over for a years up until 2006 before Terrance J and Rosci shared duties for six years. Then finally, in 2012, Bow Wow came aboard and was joined by Keshia Chanté a year later.
In 2015, BET plans to take the show digital via BET.com and its social media platforms.
