Patrick Willis

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis will miss the remainder of the season, after the team revealed that he will need surgery for his strained left big toe.

According to ESPN.com, the Niners placed him on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday (Nov. 11) and filled his roster spot by signing running back Alfonso Smith to a one-year contract.

The seven-time Pro Bowler missed the past three games for San Francisco (5-4), after injuring the toe in October. He’s recorded 34 tackles and an interception this season.
