Former MMA fighter War Machine, who is currently jailed for severely beating porn star girlfriend Christy Mack, attempted suicide this week from behind bars.

According to News 3, the 32-year-old (born Johnathan Koppenhaver) was found unresponsive when found a correctional officer was patrolling cells at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 14) at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.

"He noticed inmate Koppenhaver in a seated position on the floor with his feet resting on the bunk," said Metro Officer Jose Hernandez.

War Machine had a torn piece of linen wrapped around his neck, which was attached to his bunk. His face was purple and was struggling to breathe when the C.O. cut the linen and called medical personnel. A suicide note was found in his cell.

He's since been moved to a medical isolation cell where he is now on suicide watch. Reports say the incident took place on the same day he was supposed to appear in court to discuss a plea deal.

War Machine is charged with beating Mack within an inch of her life back in August, in a jealous rage when he found another man at her Las Vegas home. He's facing multiple charges, including strangulation, attempted murder, sexual assault, burglary, coercion and kidnapping... and could get life in prison.

Days after the incident, War Machine took to Twitter, saying he had gone to her house to surprise her with a ring.

"I only wish that man hadn't been there and that Christy & I would be happily engaged," he tweeted. "I don't know y I'm so cursed. One day truth will come out."
