While Lakers fans are hyped about the return of Kobe Bryant, they will start the season minus one of the team’s main contributors: guard Nick Young.
The 29-year-old’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN.com that his client suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb during practice on Thursday (Oct. 2) and is expected to shit out for six to eight weeks.
Young will have surgery Monday (Oct. 6), after which the team will offer a more specific timeline on his return.
With Kobe out, Young averaged a career-high 17.9 points and 1.5 assists per game for the Lakers last season. He re-signed with the Lakers this summer on a four-year, $21.5 million contract.
