Ravens running back Ray Rice was cut from the team Monday (Sept. 8) and suspended indefinitely by the NFL, following the release of a video that appears to show him striking his then-fiancé back in February.
The grainy video, released by TMZ, shows the NFL pro and Janay Palmer in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. Both hit each other before Rice knocks Palmer off her feet and into a railing. A previously released video, also released by TMZ, showed Rice dragging Palmer, now his wife, from the elevator at the Revel casino.
According to ESPN.com, the Ravens said they had never seen the video earlier Monday, but then sent out a one-sentence statement hours later, saying: “The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon.”
The NFL following, tweeting that commissioner “Roger Goodell has announced that based on new video evidence that became available today he has indefinitely suspended Ray Rice.”
