When the HBO series The Sopranos finally concluded in the summer of 2007, the finale ended with an opened-ended conclusion.

With Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” playing as the backdrop, mob boss Tony Soprano sat in a diner with his family when it suddenly cuts to black, leaving longtime fans to come to their own conclusions as to his fate.

Well, series creator David Chase finally offered a definitive answer to the question: “Did Tony die at the end of The Sopranos?” In an interview with VOX, he offers a simple answer. “No he isn’t.”
