The Men’s USA Basketball National Team continued preparing for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup tip-off, after DeMarcus Cousins’ (Sacramento Kings) knee-to-knee collision and injury on Thursday (Aug. 14). Though no structural damage was revealed in an MRI, he’s not expected to suit up.
While watching the team scrimmage, we had a chance to to chat with coach Mike Krzyzewski who told us he wants to make the people of his hometown Chicago proud. “I grew up about a mile-and-a-half from the United Center, so it means something special to me. Chicago is a great sports town and an amazing basketball town. We want to give the people that come out a team that they can be proud of. I think it means a lot to everyone here.”
Saturday night’s (Aug. 16) roster will include: Kenneth Faried, Klay Thompson, Mason Plumlee, Stephen Curry, Gordon Hayward, Derrick Rose, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Damian Lillard, Kyle Korver, Andre Drummond, Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan.
Team USA takes on Brazil at Chicago’s United Center at 9 p.m. and on ESPN.
