Drake’s “YOLO” Makes Oxford Dictionary

Hip-hop, specifically Drake, has contributed a new word to the Oxford English Dictionary: “YOLO”.

Popularized in his 2011 single, “The Motto,” the term, which is an acronym for “you only live once”, is just one of a list of new phrases that officially made its way to the dictionary.

“You only live once (expressing the view that one should make the most of the present moment without worrying about the future, and often used as a rationale for impulsive or reckless behavior),” Oxford writes as the definition for “YOLO.”

Other additions included MFL, SMH, and Kanye West’s term “cray,” which became popular from his verse on “N*ggas In Paris” with Jay Z. See the entire list at the Oxford Dictionary website.
