The world’s highest-paid female athlete is… tennis star Maria Sharapova.
The 27-year-old superstar tops Forbes’ annual list, beating out the likes of Serena Williams, Le Na and Danica Patrick, among others.
According to Forbes.com, Sharapova raked in earnings of $24.4 million, despite playing just one match in the second half of 2013 due to injury. But, her endorsements made up for it. Deals with Cole Haan, Nike, Avon, Samsung, Tag Heuer, and Evian helped brought in around $22 million.
Fellow tennis star Serena Williams lands at #3 on the list, earning a reported $22 million. Half her money, however, comes from earnings from tennis, earning $11 million in prize money. She also has endorsements with Nike, Wilson, Gatorade and OPI.
NASCAR superstar Danica Patrick finds herself at #5 on the list with $15 million in earnings, $7 million comes from salary and prize money for racing, while $8 million comes from endorsements/licensing from Coca-Cola, Tissot and Peak, as well as GoDaddy.
