As much as UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and challenger Daniel Cormier want to get their hands on each other, it’ll have to wait… because Jones is hurt.
The UFC announced Tuesday (August 12) that the champ is forced to postpone his scheduled title fight at UFC 178, due to a leg injury.
Jones (20-1) was scheduled to fight Cormier (15-0) on Sept. 27 in Las Vegas, but will now have to wait until Jan. 3 when they headline UFC 182.
The fight was one of the most anticipated for UFC for the fall. Jones is widely considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in MMA, while Cormier is an undefeated former Olympic wrestler. The pair made headlines last week when they scuffled during a promotional event in the MGM Grand casino lobby.
The new main event for UFC 178 will be flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson versus Chris Cariaso.
