Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier fight

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will take on Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 in late September, but the fight got started early on Monday (August 4) when the pair got into a brawl at a pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas.

During a staredown photo opp in the hotel lobby of the MGM Grand, Cormier shoved the champ after the two got into each other’s faces. Jones responded by going after the challenger and letting his hands go. The fighters then toppled the stage, and Jones stood over Cormier and continued to throw punches. It’d take multiple MGM security guards to eventually separate the two.

Later in the day, Jones and Cormier continued with a back-n-forth on Twitter.

“Come on DC where was your takedown defense?” Jones tweeted. “I put you on your back in six seconds. Put some ice on that face DC, you got lots of interviews tomorrow… Lol those baby punches from the bottom, I really hope you have more prepared than that for when I take you down again.”

“I got some td def for you. Don’t ever put ur dirty face on me again,” Cormier replied. “I won’t let another man get in my face and put his forehead against mine. I will react every time. @JonnyBones next time I will slap you.

The two are scheduled to fight on September 27th at the MGM Grand for UFC 178.

Jones was originally scheduled to fight Alexander Gustafsson in a rematch, but the challenger was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a torn meniscus in his knee.
