The UFC has been talking to retired female MMA star Gina Carano about her return to the octagon. However, president Dana White says negotiations are “complicated.”
Word is the UFC wants Carano to take on current champ Ronda Rousey at UFC 181 in December… but it will depend on a contract being worked out.
According to ESPN.com, both White and UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta met with the retired star last week… and prior to the meeting, White expressed optimism a deal would get done.
On Saturday (July 26), White admitted there was no update on Carano, saying: “It’s complicated. I’m very positive about it, but it’s complicated. I’m still working on it. That’s all I can say.”
The 32-year-old is scheduled to begin production on a film titled The Opium War, at the end of summer. As far as the rumored December fight, White said: “I don’t know.”
A pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts, Carano has not fought since a TKO loss to Cris Justino in August 2009.
