Despite his immense popularity, LeBron James has never been the most popular male athlete in America during his career… until now.
In the latest Harris Poll, a representative sample of 2,241 people in the U.S. were surveyed last month, and James topped the list.
According to ESPN.com, LeBron (second last season) beat out retired legend Michael Jordan, who held the #1 spot from 1993 to 2005.
It’s been a long road back to being the top dog too. When he left the Cavaliers in 2010 with his “Decision,” in which he announced he’d be joining the Miami Heat, LeBron fell completely out of the top 10.
Rounding out the top 5 is retiring New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and in a tie for fifth is Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
