Following reports that Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) was denied entry into the United States and subsequently forced to cancel his upcoming U.S. Tour, a man claiming to be the rapper/actor’s friend says reports are false.
Alleged friend Abdi Hussein spoke to the South Africa-based The Times about the reports, claiming that he was never denied entry into the U.S., but instead, “moved the dates” for his tour due to other projects he was working on.
“[Mos Def] has never attempted to enter any country and been refused. It’s a complete lie,” Hussein told The Times. “In fact, if there was anything criminal against you, they would invite you back so they could lock you up.”
Bey moved to South Africa in 2009, after realizing that no one in his family had ever left Brooklyn. He’s lived there ever since.
