Seven months after the closest fight of his career, Jon Jones dominated challenger Glover Teixeira on his way to a unanimous decision at UFC 172 on Saturday (April 26).
With the win, the light heavyweight champ defended the title for the seventh consecutive time, improving to 20-1, while Teixeira’s record fell to 22-3. “It was a lot of what we thought it would be,” Jones said. “Glover doesn’t always tend to be versatile. We foresaw a lot of things and sure enough, it happened that way.”
Jones took it to his Brazilian challenger throughout five rounds, though he never came close to knocking him out. He did, however, inflict pain — opening up deep cut above Teixeira’s right eye in the third round with an elbow.
Jones’ next fight will be a rematch against Alexander Gustafsson (16-2), whom he beat narrowly in September 2013.
