After years of leading the industry, KFC has been dethroned as the fried chicken king. The new champ? Chick-fil-A.
According to Bloomberg, Chick-fil-A has become the leader in the U.S. chicken [quick-service restaurant] segment, despite having less than half of the locations of KFC — 1,775 U.S. stores to KFC’s 4,491.
In 2013, the restaurant’s sales passed $5 billion, while all of KFC’s U.S. restaurants racked up around $4.22 billion. Another interesting note: Chick-fil-A locations are closed on Sundays.
If you haven’t heard of Chick-fil-A, don’t worry. Most of their restaurants are located in the South. But, the company is planning locations in the “northern, Midwest, and western states.”
