It’s been a decade since Lil Wayne dropped the original Carter album. With work on the fifth installment of the series underway, the rapper says don’t expect the same ol’ Weezy this time around.
In an interview with MTV, the hip-hop star said he’s matured a lot and will show that on Tha Carter V, which will be his final solo album.
“I say it’s different, because I’m older and wiser, and I know more things and I know more about myself now,” Wayne said.
“I’m more careful about what I’m doing and trying to be more careful about what I’m saying,” he said.
In the past, Wayne says he’d let management or label executive deal with any controversy stemming from his lyrics or actions. Today, he’s takes a different approach.
“There were times when I didn’t care,” he explained. “It’s not that I didn’t care, it’s just that I knew that I had people above me or around me that was gonna make sure whatever I said or shouldn’t have said or whatever I did or shouldn’t have did. Well now, I’m those people, and I’m telling me what I should do and what I shouldn’t say.”
Wayne previously announced that Tha Carter V would drop May 5th.
