DJ Mustard and YG

With YG's anticipated My Krazy Life debut dropping this week, XXL caught up with the Compton rapper's longtime producer DJ Mustard, who called it today's version of Dr. Dre's The Chronic.

"Like [Dr. Dre's] The Chronic, really," the producer said, when asked what album he'd compare it to. "For sure. It's like our generation of The Chronic, you know what I'm saying? This is Snoop [Dogg] and [Dr.] Dre all over again."

As far as recording the album, Mustard called the experience enjoyable, especially since he and YG are so close.

"It's like working with one of your cousins, or your brother or some sh*t like that," Mustard explained. "We was just having fun, man. And with working with your cousin, it's not like working with someone you don't know. With a dude you wouldn't know, like, I probably couldn't tell you, 'Yo, the song you just did was horrible,' because you'd probably take it a certain way. But if I was your cousin, you'd probably be like, 'Hey, look, sh*t's wack. What are you gonna do?' ‘Cause I'm already your cousin, see what I'm saying? So it's sh*t like that. We're like family. I feel like we came together with a classic album."

My Krazy Life drops Tuesday (March 18). Pre-order now at iTunes.

Aside from YG's album, Mustard is working on his own solo project, which he'll reveal at a later date.
