Ice Cube

Ice Cube recently weighed in on Macklemore’s Grammy 2014 win for Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar, essentially calling the white rapper a “one hit wonder.”

Macklemore won the award with partner Ryan Lewis for their album, The Heist, over Kendrick’s critically acclaimed debut, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. In an interview with Billboard, the rap vet explained why he didn’t agree with the win.

“It’s typical,” Ice Cube said. “It’s the Grammys. What do you expect? But for them to pass up true skills for what could be fly-by-night success… I don’t want to dis anybody, but seriously.”

Macklemore had a big evening at the 2014 Grammys in late January, taking home four trophies. That evening, he texted Kendrick, saying he felt he deserved to win instead. He then shared the text with the world, via Instagram… saying he “robbed” the TDE star, and furthermore, had an unfair advantage “due to race.”
