Lil Boosie is finally free. The Louisiana rapper was released from custody Wednesday (March 5) after over four years in prison, reports local news channel WAFP.
The 31-year-old (real name: Torrence Hatch) was slated for release in mid-February, but his parole hearing was cancelled and pushed back. At the time, music journalist Jeff Weiss revealed the news, but said Boosie’s release would come in March. He was right.
“Boosie still has to finish up some classes & then his release date will be officially re-calculated — tentatively, he’ll be home in March,” said Weiss.
Boosie was jailed in 2009 for a probation violation and marijuana possession charge, but his sentence was extended after pleading guilty to attempting to smuggle narcotics into prison. He was also accused of murder for the 2009 shooting death of 35-year-old Terry Body, but was found not guilty.
Now a free man, the rapper will be on parole until 2018.
