Jay Z and Beyonce continue their reign atop the music biz, as they top annual Billlboard’s Power 100 list, which breaks down the most influential people in the music industry.
The couple are the first celebrities to top the magazine’s list of industry magnates.
“Leveraging their star power to release new albums in unprecedented ways—Jay Z through Samsung and Beyoncé through iTunes—they instantly changed how the industry and fans thought about interacting with music,” writes Billboard.com. “He gave his album away; she charged a premium price for hers. But they both used the element of surprise to restore the excitement that used to accompany a new release, before that impact was dulled by the endless thunder of carefully plotted promotion.”
Aside from Jay and Bey, the list is filled with business executives most fans wouldn’t recognize — including Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge, who comes in behind the duo; Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino; and Sony Music Entertainment chairman/CEO Doug Morris.
The prestigious also includes Cash Money Records co-founders Birdman and Ronald “Slim” Williams, veteran label executive L.A. Reid, Ryan Seacrest, and Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun.
