Jay Z continues building his empire in the sports world, as he signs New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia to his Roc Nation Sports agency.
The company welcomed the 33-year-old Yankees star with a tweet Thursday (Jan. 16), along with a photo of the contract being signed. “CC exemplifies everything Roc Nation looks for in an athlete and a partner,” Roc Nation Sports president Juan Perez said in a statement.
Sabathia has three years left on his contract with the Yankees, which comes with a guaranteed $76 million. But, when contract conversations finally take place during the 2017 season at the earliest, Roc Nation spokesman Ron Berkowitz said Jay Z and Perez plan on negotiating the pitcher’s deal.
The pitcher also has an endorsement deal with Jordan Brand, and has done commercials for both Pepsi and Subway in recent years.
Sabathia joins a Roc Nation roster that includes New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, New York Yankees’ Robinson Cano, and Skylar Diggins of the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock.
