Futbol player Cristiano Ronaldo dethroned Lionel Messi as the world’s best player Monday (Jan. 13), after winning the Ballon d’Or.
Ronaldo had a helluva year, recording 69 goals in 59 games, leading his way to the honor. 14 of the goals came in the Champions League as Madrid reached the semifinals before being beaten by Borussia Dortmund.
According to ESPN.com, he accepted the award in a Zurich ceremony from Madrid after training on Monday morning. “Thank you to everyone, my teammates, the national team and my family, to everyone here. Eusebio and Mandela were very important for me, I can’t speak,” a tearful Ronaldo said.
