Vans and Della, a socially responsible fashion brand, have teamed up for a special footwear and accessories capsule for spring 2014. The collab creates an opportunity to heighten the awareness of Della’s dedication to empowering the women of the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa, says Vans.
Della founder Tina Tangalakis started the company after she fell in love with Ghana during a volunteer program she joined in 2009. Today, the company provides the opportunity to build a foundation for a better life through jobs, education and skills training by employing over 50 women to create handcrafted textiles using sustainable materials from the Ghana region.
The Vans x Della partnership produces a six-piece footwear capsule for men and women with an accessories offering to match. Della’s team of designers handcrafted fabrics through a local batik process to create one-of-a-kind prints that were blended onto classic Vans silhouettes, including the Sk8-Hi Reissue, Era, Authentic, and Sk8-Hi Slim, as well as a large hobo bag and wristlet clutch.
The rich colors of the fabric are inspired by the landscape and culture of the region. Vivid shades of blue, yellow, red and green mimic the riverbanks and tree lines found in Volta, while the tri-tone heart print pulls together tones of pink, magenta and purple that embodies the heart and soul put into the construction of these hand crafted materials.
The Vans x Della Collection releases this month at Vans store for $60 – $70. For more info, visit Vans.com/Della.
