Following the launch of their F-Type Convertible a year ago, Jaguar followed up Tuesday night (Nov. 19) with the reveal of the anticipated Coupe version, ahead of its debut at the L.A. Auto Show this week.
In typical Hollywood fashion, the performance-based Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupé was unveiled in spectacular fashion during a private event, emerging from the darkness in a warehouse space in West L.A. The first glimpse came before around 500 tastemakers, media (including BallerStatus.com) and celebrities, as the F-TYPE R Coupé accelerated towards us before passing under a grandstand into a hidden tunnel at full throttle.
“Creating a sports Coupé is the purest of design tasks, and also the most challenging; get it right and aesthetically the result will be as dynamic as the car should be rewarding to drive. In F-TYPE Coupé, I believe we’ve got it right,” said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar. “The dramatic debut of the 550PS F-TYPE R Coupé in Los Angeles this evening – possibly the most dynamic reveal of a car ever – underlines its performance credentials.”
The F-TYPE Coupé model line-up is headlined by the F-TYPE R Coupé, which sports a 5.0-litre V8 super-charged engine enabling acceleration from 0-60mph in 4.0-seconds, and a top speed of 186mph (limited). The F-TYPE S Coupé and F-TYPE Coupé models complete the range, powered respectively by the brand’s 3.0-litre super-charged V6 engine, giving 0-60mph in 4.8/5.1-seconds and top speeds of 171/161 mph.
If you didn’t get the invite, don’t worry. The new Jaguar F-Type Coupe range will be on display at the L.A. Auto Show, which opens to the public Friday (Nov. 22).
