Timothy Bradley Takes Split Decision Win Over Juan Manuel Marquez

Timothy Bradley vs Juan Manuel Marquez

Timothy Bradley took home a split decision victory against Juan Manuel Marquez Saturday night (October 12), retaining his welterweight title and remaining undefeated.

The fight was contested and close throughout — the third straight, in which Bradley won in a close decision, including the controversial win over Manny Pacquiao two fights prior. On the score cards, he won 116-112 on one and 115-113 on another, while a third judge had Marquez winning 115-113. Just enough to win.

“That win was my ticket to the boxing Hall of Fame,” Bradley said after the fight. “I beat a great champion.”

While the judges agreed, the crowd didn’t, and neither did the Mexican fighter. “I came to win. I felt that I did win,” Marquez said. “The judges took it away. You don’t have to knock out a guy to win.”

Bradley and Marquez stood in the middle of the ring and traded wild blows in the 10th and final round, where the Mexican fighter was rocked by a left hook in the final seconds, the biggest punch of the fight.

However, for most of the fight, Bradley boxed from the outside, using his jab to keep Marquez at bay.
