Capture The Crown - Crown Royal

Over the weekend (July 27-28th), BallerStatus.com will be participating in Crown Royal's annual Capture The Crown program, in which the whiskey brand hosts bloggers in Indianapolis for their 2013 "Your Hero's Name Here 400" NASCAR race.

The weekend is dedicated to honoring heroes who make a difference in their community. This year is's U.S. Marine: Gunnery Sergeant Samuel Deeds.

While deployed in Iraq, Deeds came across an IED (improvised explosive device) while setting up a vehicle checkpoint. Upon seeing fellow Marines approaching, he exposed himself to the device, risking his own life to save others. In the blast, he was severely injured and underwent more than 30 surgeries and procedures following the blast. Three years later, while still recovering, Deeds’ heroic instincts took charge once again when he saved the lives of three individuals caught in a rip tide off the coast of North Carolina.

For his valiant efforts, he is being honored with the annual race's namesake.

As a participating blog, BallerStatus owner Jay Casteel -- along with other select bloggers -- will be given an unprecedented NASCAR experience: including access to pit boxes, Victory Lane, etc., as well competing in a scavenger hunt.

We will be sharing the experience our social networks, so follow us: Twitter (@BallerStatus), Facebook, and Instagram (@BallerStatuscom) to experience the activities alongside us.

In addition to the Deeds winning the Brickyard 400 namesake, country music star Justin Moore has released a special song, entitled "Heroes." For every free download between now and the Samuel Deeds 400 at the Brickyard, Crown Royal will donate $1 to Armed Forces Foundation. So, download it now HERE.

Following the weekend, further coverage will be posted here at BallerStatus.com. Stay tuned...
