Andrew Bynum Agees To Deal With Cleveland Cavaliers

Andrew Bynum

After just one season in Philadelphia, which he missed to injury, NBA center Andrew Bynum has made a decision during a short free agency… to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to ESPN.com, the 25-year-old has agreed to an incentive-laden, two-year contract that could be worth up to $24 million.┬áThe Cavs are said to hold a team option for the second year… and $6 million of the contract is guaranteed, as the team is cautious about Bynum’s injuries.

He missed the entire 2012-13 season with the Philadelphia 76ers because of a knee injury, so he’ll need to reach a variety of health- and game-related benchmarks to collect the full $12 million in the first year of the deal, said ESPN.com’s report.

The Cavs feel the $6 million gamble is a low-risk move, and an attractive one for the team, as they pair him alongside star guard Kyrie Irving and attempt to bring LeBron James back to Cleveland in the 2014 free agency.

Bynum also met with the Atlanta Hawks and the Dallas Mavericks. Sources said neither team made a formal offer.

In addition to the new big man, the Cavs have also picked up guard Jarrett Jack and forward Earl Clark (who played with the Lakers last season)… and 2013 #1 overall pick, Anthony Bennett.
