After Jay-Z announced the release date and marketing strategy for his next album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, with a Samsung commercial on Sunday night (June 16), Fool’s Gold Records founder/producer A-Trak hopped on Twitter to share his opinion, calling it “corny”.
During an ad spot that ran during Game 5 of the NBA Finals, it was revealed that the upcoming project would be released, for free, to one million Samsung Galaxy users on July 4th, a full three days before its retail release on July 7th.
The three-minute ad (below) featured Jay in the studio with Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams and Swizz Beatz working on the project.
A-Trak didn’t seem to like it much. “That Samsung sh** is corny,” he wrote (@ATrak).
