This year, we decided to allow a fan to cover Guerilla Union’s 2013 Paid Dues Festival. We chose our friend Kishia Moore (of Famous Stars & Straps), who is a huge hip-hop fan. With her daughter and son in tow, she ventured to San Bernardino, California on Saturday (March 30) to take in the festivities … and report back. Below is her review/experience of the annual festival.

Finally, the day for Guerilla Union’s Paid Dues 2013. Woke up full of excitement, ready for a full day of So. Cal sun and hip-hop.

We arrived at the San Manuel Amphitheater, and to our surprise, the venue was much bigger than we’d expected! There was thousands of people out for some fun and good music.

First up was WC. He had the crowd hyped up on authentic west coast hip-hop — everyone had their “W’s” in the air and were c-walking right along with him. Next up was Suga Free; he blessed the stage in true Pomona fashion. giving us hisclassic rhymes like, “Why You Bullsh**ting?” and “Do I Love Her?”

The LRG booth was popping… as usual. Giving out a large amount of towels, tees, hats, etc. Their booth is always a good time.

Took a small break in the VIP tent — Power 106 DJ’s had the party going up! The meet-n-greet had a lot of people excited to meet their favorite artist!

There was also had a nice spread of complimentary popcorn and different candy for the VIP crowd. I thought that was a nice gesture.

Next up was Joey Bada$$. The crowd was huge when we got back to the Dues Paid Stage for his performance; everyone knew his rhymes, he rarely had to finish his own raps ’cause the crowd had his back!! I can see why he landed a spot on the XXL Freshman 2013 list. We then rushed to see Freddie Gibbs, per my son’s request. He was so hyped! His performance was so dope! I am now a Freddie Gibbs fan! Then, we rushed back to the Dues Paid Stage for Trinidad James; he was amazing and full of energy and excitement. He definitely had the crowd turned up! When he performed “All Gold Everything,” he had people throwing up their gold chains whether they were real or fake, lol His set was a really good time!

I really couldn’t wait to see Problem and Badd Lucc (like Whaaat), and I got exactly what I expected: a great set! Clyde Carson surprised us by coming out and doing the remix to “Slow Down.” Problem also brought out his daughters and the entire Diamond Lane Gang for “Like whaaat!” They are definitely up next!

Nipsey Hussle blessed the stage next in true west coast fashion, fly crippin’ had the crowd feeling gangsta — everyone had their C’s in the air! Juicy J had the crowd “trippy,” he gave us a HUGE surprise when Wiz Khalifa came out of nowhere and they performed “Erry Day” — the crowed was to turnt after that!!!

Next up on the Dues Paid stage was Dom Kennedy. He is one of my son’s favorites, so he was a must see. This Leimert Park native had everyone vibing to his rhymes!

The day ended with Black Hippy… and they did not disappoint! First song up was the “Black Lip Bastard Remix.” Kendrick also performed the acappella remix of “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” It was so dope!

Needless to say, we had a great time at Paid Dues 2013. Congratulations to Guerilla Union for another successful event and my friends at for making it all possible! Can’t wait til next year!
