Wale is hard at work on the follow-up to his 2012 Maybach Music debut, Ambition, and recently, revealed his plans for 2013, which he says includes the release of two albums.
During his visit to Philadelphia’s Power 99, the D.C. rapper announced that he will release his third solo album this summer, while simultaneously recording his fourth project, The Album About Nothing, due later in the year.
For his next album, Wale says he’s chosen to keep his list of collaborators short.
“I got a small circle of people that I’m recording with right now,” said Wale. “It’s all my team really. We’ll see how it goes. That’s how I get the best music.”
So far, his sessions have spawned the single “Bad”, featuring Tiara Thomas. It is a taste of the overall sound he’s shooting for.
“It’s gonna have one sound. It’s very, very soulful,” he explained. “‘Bad’ is a pretty good indication of the direction that I’m going for on this particular project. It’s a little nostalgic, a little vintage, but the sounds will make you feel on this album.”
As far as his fourth project, Wale is “knee-deep in that joint,” which will feature comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Additionally, Wale plans to release a collaborative mixtape with MMG labelmate Meek Mill.
