Charli Baltimore has been doing interviews as of late, as she gears up a new album this summer. Her most recent interview was with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club morning show, where she discussed how things with Murder Inc. fell apart.
Chuck says label head Irv Gotti was “distracted” by how fast his label took off, which eventually resulted in the downfall.
“I think Irv just got distracted by all of the stuff that was going on with Murder Inc. All the fame that happened with Murder Inc. happened so fast. Ja [Rule] was popping, but I don’t think Irv was prepared for everybody else to pop the way that they did. I think that’s what distracted Irv from what he should have been focused on,” she explained. “I don’t think it was Ashanti in particular. I think Ashanti’s record sales and the fact that he had her poppin’ had Ja poppin’. Murder Inc was just poppin’ at the time as a whole, it was more of Irv’s problem. It was a great idea, and unfortunately, my project was up next and that’s when everything started falling apart.”
As the interview continued, Charli talked various topics, including running into Lil Kim at the station before her interview, and if they have any issues stemming their separate relationships with the late Notorious B.I.G. She also talks about her daughter’s career as a model, rumors of dating Irv Gotti in the past, and her failed marriage with an unknown man outside the industry at the height of her fame with Murder Inc.
Charli is gearing up for the release of a new single, titled “All Eyes” featuring Maino, coming later this month. Her full album, True Lies, is set for July.
