Following the record-breaking success of the Marvel blockbuster “The Avengers,” studios have confirmed that a sequel for the film is already in development.
Walt Disney Co confirmed Tuesday (May 8) that an “Avengers” sequel is underway. However, a release date has not been set.
The film debuted over the weekend with a staggering $207.4 million in ticket sales within the U.S., and much more overseas. So far, it’s raked in $702.2 million worldwide.
In the film, Marvel unites superheroes Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor and The Hulk in a battle against a villain out to destroy the Earth.
The next “Avengers” film is expected to follow previously announced “Thor” and “Iron Man” sequels, both coming in 2013, and a new “Captain America” movie in 2014.
It’s too early for any details about the upcoming film. However, if you saw the recently released film, the franchise’s next villain is revealed in the final scene.
